The story of Sweetheart's Horse Treats is one filled with the love of horses!
I have been a horse crazy girl since the early 1980s when I started riding at my best friend’s horse farm, The Vershire Riding School in Vershire, Vermont. After taking a break from horses and riding for most of my educational years. I moved to Brookfield, Vermont and the dairy farm I live on now with my husband in 1999 and I decided I wanted to have horses again. So, we got a horse, and then another, and then we had our two daughters who quickly became little horse-loving girls. In 2014/2015 after years of lessons, horse shows, horse camp, and horse care I started testing out my horse treats with my horses and my barn family at Hitching Post Farm! The enthusiasm and feedback fueled my determination to perfect the recipes. The communal spirit of sharing and caring for our horses strengthened my resolve to provide the best treats possible. In 2016 I finally had a process that worked and I started selling Sweetheart’s Horse Treats at local businesses and through word of mouth! The process was slow and through the years both challenging and rewarding. Countless hours were spent researching ingredients, checking ingredient prices, testing recipes, and refining techniques. Each batch was a labor of love, created with the well-being of our beloved horses in mind. The farmhouse kitchen became a hub of creativity, filled with the warm aroma of freshly baked treats and the excitement of discovering the perfect combination of flavor options. What began as a small venture in my farmhouse kitchen soon grew into a flourishing business. Word spread about the exceptional quality of Sweetheart’s Horse Treats, and demand has increased over the years. With growth, came the need for expansion, so I currently contract with some local horse friends who also bake horse treats in their Vermont farmhouse kitchens! The dedication to using natural ingredients and ensuring high quality continues to be the cornerstone of the business. Each treat is crafted with the same love and care that we started with.
Today, Sweetheart’s Horse Treats is a local favorite for the Central Vermont horse community, and we are committed to providing the best horse treats for all our equine partners. Our vision extends beyond just creating treats; it encompasses love and support for the entire horse community, regardless of discipline, and the bond we all share with our horses. From the very beginning, it was essential to me to use natural ingredients. I believed that the benefits of wholesome, quality ingredients would shine through in the health and happiness of the horses. My commitment to natural, high-quality products set Sweetheart’s Horse Treats apart, ensuring that every treat was made with care and integrity. The oats, molasses, and other natural ingredients are the backbone of all of our horse treat options.
As we look to the future, our mission remains to share Sweetheart’s Horse Treats with horse lovers everywhere. We also look forward to working with the horse industry to promote all disciplines of horse sport and a love of horses. We aim to expand our reach, ensuring that more horses can enjoy the benefits of our nutritious, delicious treats. The journey that began in our farmhouse kitchen continues and we are excited for this next chapter!
